….is a virtue.
‘saying “Surely I will bless you and multiply you”. And, thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.’ Hebrews 6:14-15 ESV
God, swore by His name ‘to bless and multiply’ Abraham. That promise showed up 25 years later with Isaac’s birth! What sticks out to me about this verse is, ‘he patiently waited’. What this verse leaves out…25 years! One can be patient, only if they have the FAITH that what they’re waiting on will indeed come to pass.
“He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”” Genesis 22:2 ESV
In the book of Genesis, God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac. A son, that he and his wife Sarah conceived late in life. Abraham was 100 years old and his wife Sarah was 90 years old. So, in retrospect God asked Abraham to sacrifice the very thing he promised him. [I for one would’ve been acting a fool, ‘but God you GAVE me this, remember.] But, Abraham said “the Lord will provide”*. God, not only did this to test Abraham’s faith, but to know if Abraham’s blessing was of more importance than the ‘Blesser’.
It’s no wonder Abraham is often referred by ‘the father of Faith’.
