Misconceptions About God

I’ve come to know that there are several misconceptions about God. I list some of them, and bust the myths with the truth!

1. God is distant.

“Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 23:24

God is omnipresent. Meaning God is present at all times, in all places. The Bible says even the massive universe He created, is filled with Him. He is everywhere. And, more importantly, He’s there with you.

2. God is angry.

For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. Psalm 30:5

We are made in God’s image, possessing the abundance of emotions He too possesses. God is not angry, it’s just not His nature. If anything God is longsuffering, meaning He will suffer for a long distance of time; for our sakes’. And, His own goodness sakes’. With that said, God is Holy and upright. He hates the sin because He is the polar opposite of Him. Anger is hateful, but God is love.

3. You have to be formal with God.

Christianity isn’t a religion, it’s a relationship. If we seek after a right relationship with God, we must be ourselves. God doesn’t expect you to be, anyone besides who He created you to be. Your fellowship with God, may not look like anyone else’s and that’s okay. And, if you really think about it, closeness omits all formality. God wants you, nothing else!

4. God is too busy for you.

So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Matthew 20:32

Once you understand that God is omnipresent, you realize that He isn’t confined to human limits. God has no schedule, and no shifting of us His priorities. Although God is the holder of the universe, you are important to Him! Out of all the things God created, He set His love for you (Deuteronomy 7:7). The sun, moon, and stars will fade one day; but you are who He desires to spend eternity with. God chose you!

There are many more misconceptions about God, unfortunately. We are all in a spiritual battle. There are powers that be, those blind unbelievers to the knowledge of Christ. That deceive, believers alike. The powers must convey that God isn’t either really God. Or, convinces that seeking God isn’t worth the effort. The notions and ideas people have about God are based on inexperience.

But, God invites us to taste and see His goodness. To know first hand, to see with our own eyes, and to indulge in His sweetness.

Conclusion

Maybe, now, after all this time; is the time to know God for yourself. Fellowship with God isn’t something you can even begin to know until you sit at his feet. Until, you and God laugh together while driving in the car. Also, to feel His swift comfort when tears are running down your face. I invite you, give God a try.

When I found God, is when I found myself. When I first loved God, is when I began to love myself.

The truth is, God is none of those things you heard about Him. Not one.
